Try and go to a TEDx event if and where it's accessible, locally or otherwise.
(And I've recommended for younger ones to take a TED fellowship).
You will meet some fantastic and innovative people.
In February, the TED2010 conference was great. Though I only saw it on video, there were some terrific ones.
